ALL THE QUESTIONS
YOU’VE BEEN WANTING TO ASK
1) Are all Uniplay's art toys made from recycled plastics?
Most of them, yes! Our limited editions are usually 3D-printed using recycled PET plastics collected from beverage companies. Occasionally, especially for international toy shows and pop-ups, we release special editions featuring non-recycled materials for art toy collectors.
2) How long does recycled plastic last?
Good news, it lasts longer than you might think. While typical 3D-printed PLA materials last around 3–5 years, our art toys are made from recycled PET (rPETG), which can last 10–15 years under normal indoor conditions. With proper care, they can even go beyond 20 years.
3) Why create a Fortune Merlion in the first place?
We thought, why not combine two icons? The Merlion (a global symbol of Singapore) and the Fortune Cat (a beloved symbol of luck). Since lions are the “kings” of cats, and water represents wealth, the Fortune Merlion felt like the ultimate “King of Fortune.” Plus, it gives us a platform to collaborate with brands and artists to turn trash into treasure.
4) Why is the recycled art toy more premium than a typical art toy?
Great question. Each Uniplay's art piece is crafted with complexity and care, from turning discarded plastic into 3D-printable filament, to hand-crafting in very small batches (often under 100 pieces/edition). Some editions are even hand-painted by local and regional artists, making them truly one-of-a-kind. So you’re not just buying a souvenir, you’re supporting the artists and the environment by collecting a very meaningful, sustainable piece of art.
5) Does the Fortune Merlion run on batteries?
It sure does! You have the option to power it with replaceable or rechargeable batteries. Some people just love that classic beckoning hand motion as it brings a bit more life (and luck) than a static pose. If you are not superstitious, it looks good without any batteries, too.
6) I can’t find the battery compartment!
It’s a little hidden (we like to keep things sleek). The battery compartment is tucked inside the pedestal. Just slide the Merlion off its base, and you’ll find it underneath. Easy! (And yes, there’s a video guide below here too.)
7) Any plans for a solar-powered version?
Absolutely! It’s been on our wishlist for a while, and we’re aiming to make it happen in the coming year. Stay tuned!
